Anywho, I had a HUGE realization today. You see, I had some gift cards equaling a sum of $75 ( and a little cash from my Bday). So what does a girl do with that ( they were spendable anywhere) ... what else, buy some RAM for her MAC. I tripled my RAM, and I couldn't be happier. I am seriously sooooo pumped about this. And while I was so giddy driving home, I realize... (hahahahahahaha) that I am SUCH a NERD for this being:

A) What I spent my money on &
B) Being barely able to contain myself thing of how screaming fast CS3 (my editing software) was going to be

Today I seriously feel beat down. I am so tired. And I will go ahead and say it for those who know me and are thinking it... "Well if you went to bed at a decent hour.. yada yada yada..." Today was one of those day where I would have given anything to be out of the office ( my real job as an accountant) and behind the camera or editing pictures or anything to do with photography. I get these yearning to create, and that makes me useless for the rest of the day as far as reconciliation, accruals, JE's, and any other accounting (a.k.a. non-photography related) matter goes. When I grow up... dang it, I'm already well on my way to "grown up". OK, I'm done whining, for now anyways :-)

So, since NOTHING was open on New Years Day, and football doesn't give me that warm and fuzzy feeling all over, the Scarb's and I headed out to to the Dallas World Aquarium. If you haven't been, and your in the area, you've gotta go!! They are a lot cheaper than they were a year or so ago. It's like an indoor zoo. There is a lot more than just fish in there. And they have an awesome shark tunnel where the shark swim over and all around you. So much fun, and the kids were really diggin it. Here is a sloth...
Isn't he cute!! God made this creature with no motivation to do anything other than chill in a tree. (Hence the title of this post) He had no fence around him, I mean where is he going to go. He's a SLOTH. There was a zoo keeper there to make sure no one bothered him, and there where several signs that read "Do Not Touch The Sloth" Aparently people feel the need to see if he is real or something. I wanted to touch him.

So when I got home today, Craig and I hit the road. I was excited to see my run on my personal nikeplus.com, but instead I saw nothing. :-( I forgot to start it, so all that work for nothing. I guess I will try again tomorrow. All that for nothing! I am running the Cowtown in February. If anyone out there would like to join team Mi-Lo for the 5K just let me know. I have some serious progress to make before then.

Literally, physically..... seriously! I was driving on the freeway, minding my own business, going to work on Saturday (which stinks all on it's own) so that I can enjoy Christmas with out stressing about the upcoming deadline, when I heard tires screeching. I look over and BAM, then BAM again, and then finally BAM and I stop. Yes that was three BAMS! This girl slammed on her brakes to not hit the car in front of her ( traffic in that lane was slowing down) so instead her car turned and hit my car on the back passenger side. That spun my car back into her car again on the front part of my car and A LOT harder. That hit sent my car flying across the lane and slammed me into the concrete median dividing the two sides of the freeway. My head started pounding so I reached up and there was blood oozing out of my head. I FREAKED OUT. I'm ok I think, I have a nasty cut on my head that bled for a good two hours after the wreck, and feel like I got hit by a train. My whole body is achy, but no one was seriously hurt so I am sooooo thankful for that. I called 911, and I would like to say that they are not near so nice as those on Star people on those commercials :-) Here is how it went...

Me "I've been hit"

Operator "Where are you located"

Me "Across from Albertsons on XXXX (road)"

Me "I can't get out of my car"

Op "Are you hurt"

Me "I don't know"

Op "Do you need an ambulance"

Me "I don't know, my head is bleeding"

Op "OK I will send one just in case"

Ok seriously, I've been hit, can't get out of my car (that implies BIG wreck and body damage to either me or the car) and your asking me if you should send an ambulance. Your the expert here, what do you think. Anywho, the Fire and Ambulance guys were really nice and helpful. I didn't talk to the girl who hit me because she was across the street. Needless to say my car was not drivable. :-( Here are some pics from the towing place and my head. Pay no attention to my inch long roots that I should have gone again and fixed yesterday, but now I will have to wait until this cut heals. I can only imagine the pain of hair dye in an open cut for 25 to 30 minutes. Suck!!! No car and dark root... Merry Christmas. Oh, and I really wish the picture better displayed the trauma of the whole thing. Why do pictures never look as bad a the events when they happen. And now on to the show....

Don't you just love Texas weather. Friday was 83 and today(Sunday) just two days later it's 40. It was snowing in Thanksgiving and we will probably be back in shorts at Christmas. I envy those who can "put away" their summer cloths to free up room in the closet for the winter cloths and vise versa. But I wouldn't live anywhere else... well maybe Colorado because I also envy those who can go skiing whenever they want ;-)

Well, my sister has given Miss E her old camera from our childhood (we both had identical kiddy Kodak cameras) and over Thanksgiving Miss E wanted to "take pictures" and by that she meant that she wanted to play photo shoot where she got to "take" pictures ( there was no film in the camera). She was so cute. She would say "So who should we do next" My sister, Ethan, and Craig were they only ones to humor us :-) She got Craig in front of the tree, took his picture, and said, "Ok, you can go now"!! Too cute! So we were taking pictures, and I sat down on the floor, so she had to also. She is just the cutest thing EVER!!! Ok, enough procrastination, now I really have to go work on Christmas cards...

for now :-) I love it when I "find" a picture. You see, when I am taking pictures for someone, I take A LOT of pictures to make sure we get that perfect smile, laugh, expression, and so on. So sometime a good one can hide for a day or two, but don't worry, I always find them :-) So here is miss E. I was afraid I did not get any special ones of just her. She was all about the snow for about 10 minutes then things when south really fast. Can you blame her? It was cold. However, it was fun for a little while...

Thanksgiving Recap... Round 2...

So this past weekend we headed out to West Texas to give thanks with my family. I was sad that I missed the big snow on Thanksgiving day. Yes you heard me right, a HUGE snow in West Texas on Thanksgiving! When I say huge snow, that means enough snow to build snowmen :-) We take what we can get around here, and we are lucky if it even snows once a year. So, this year, my sister and I took on the task of preparing the meal... all by ourselves... for the whole family... which neither one had done before. I've cooked one turkey in my life, and when I say I, I mean Craig has cooked a turkey and I helped... but mostly watched. Kim has never cooked a turkey, but she got a recipe from Kidd Kraddick so what else do you really need? I was slightly nervous because you cook the turkey in a brown paper grocery bag, but if Kidd Kraddick says it's good, then who are we to argue! His words are as good as gold in our book :-) So here is what we prepared:

The Menu:
Spiral Sliced Ham
Brown Bag Turkey
Stuffing
Turkey Gravy
Cheesy Mashed Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole
Cream Cheese Corn
Deviled Eggs (Courtesy of Mom)
English Pea Salad (Again courtesy of Mom, basically because she is the only one who eats it))
Yeast Rolls
Fruit with Raspberry & White Chocolate Cream Cheese Dip (Again Mom)
Apple Crisp (all Shane's hard work)
Bread Pudding (all Shane again)

Against all odds, and with the help of Shane & Craig...
AND IT ALL TURNED OUT DELICIOUS!!!

The Turkey was soooooo tender and juicy. We were very proud of ourselves (we did a little victory dance after everyone left) Mission Accomplished :-)

Thanksgiving Recap... Round 1...

So on Thanksgiving day, I had the pleasure of spending the day with C's family and friends. Good food, good friends, cold weather, and football: that is what Thanksgiving is all about, well that and remembering that we are blessed. One the Menu: Fried turkey. I had never had this delicacy before, so I was very curious. C was the main man in charge of frying the 22lbs of bird...

And as soon as the oil was getting hot, here came the snow...

But do you think that would sop us from getting our turkey on... I don't think so...

It turned out DELICIOUS!!!!!! It was so juicy and tender, it did not taste fried at all. Everything was so good :-)

And of course, you know who wanted their fair share! Don't worry, I'm sure they got plenty here and there...

I had a mini session with the E's this afternoon, and as always: Miss Ladybug LOVES to have her picture taken, Mario can barely stay still, and Harry Potter is too cool for Hogwarts. I've been a BLAH blogger, but ... well I could sit here and give you a million excuses. Honestly, I've been busy, with stuff other than my photogs. I won't go into that at this time, but, well, I will say I'm trying to make lemonade out of lemons. Or as I like to say "da lemonade" out of dilemmas ...lol...snort...lol...snort... hahaha I will divulge more at at later time. ANYWHO, I was playing with my camera, and I am trying to go all manual, i.e. no training wheels, i.e. I set EVERYTHING. It is very intimidating, but I am trying to learn. AND, if I do say so myself, on my first try... I rocked... (the mic like a vandal (that's for any V Ice fans)) :-)

So, I've been reading, playing, and reading more to try to get down some key elements. I can tell a huge improvement over the last few month. I am growing and learning, and I LOVE it! I hope yall do too!

I know it's fall, and I LOVE fall, but I've been trying to get caught up on photos (sorry Kim, Kathy, and Kristen.... Do I see a pattern with "K" here?) but here is a very summer pic. I should wait till dead winter to post this one because it is soooooo summer, but I love it so...

A Good Place to Start

These are the beginning of a project I am going to work on over the next year. The focus is going to be various sports. Since I actually played tennis, I though this would be a good place to start. I was torn between color or b/w for these. I will post some color ones later and look for some feedback on which is better. I think football will be another fun sport to get creative with. There is a pair of YELLOW goal posts across the street from me that are just screaming to be captured by my camera ( not to mention the GREEN turf). I love it.

My sweet boyfriend was kind enough to be my model for the day last weekend. Of course it was cloudy and raining, but he was a trooper. Not to mention the stray cats and onlookers we encountered, but that's another story. So here is one of the shots. I am working on more, so stay tuned.....

I have decided to write an "About Me" post for anyone who might stumble upon this blog and wonder just who is this girl with the camera.

Where to begin....

How about here, my first camera (circa 1985)...

It makes me laugh to think about the HUGE flash that had to be attached to the top. I think I took about a million pictures of zoo animals with that thing. I guess you could say this camera is responsible for my passion for photography today. I have always loved taking pictures and looking at old pictures. Pictures can be so powerful. They have the ability to make us smile, laugh out loud, sigh, and even cry. Photography is my creative passion. The whole process (from composing the shot, to editing, to see the finished product) makes me giddy. Sometimes I get a feeling that I just have to take pictures, it doesn't matter what, I just need to feel my finger on the button and hear my camera in action. It is like seeing the world with new eyes. But there is another side to my life. Accounting. I find great pleasure in this as well. This is my 8-5, and it is also the structure in my life. This is the organized, analytical side where spreadsheets and databases rule!! The two sides together give me a feeling of balance. And each gives me a break from the other. This is my yin and my yang

I grew up in a medium size town in West Texas, graduated at the top of my class, went to a small Baptist university ( I will admit that there were some detours on the way, but I made it out the other end with a degree in Finance), moved to the big city, landed a sweet job with a large corporation, and now I am trying to turn my hobby into something a little bit bigger.

I have two dogs, a boyfriend of five years, and a supportive family, all of which are my life and might go blind from my flash before long.

There is a new addition to my household... It's my first SLR camera, and it is a beast! There is no such thing as streamline when dealing with such a powerful and precise tool. The body itself is not that bad, but some of the lenses are rather large. There is no being discrete with this thing. I love it. Coupled with my new Mac and new software, the possibilities are endless for Mi-Lo Photography. Now all I need is to start shooting! Here are a couple of pics I took last night just playing around with the settings and lenses. Cassidy, my beagle, tucks tail and runs when she sees me point a camera at her, but fortunately Daisy just ignores me hoping that I will go away. The poor dog has been the subject of my photography for sometime now.

The lighting wasn't great that late in the day on my patio, but I just had to take some pictures. Here are some more for my sister. Enjoy!

Instead of working on photos last night, I spent 2 hours at the computer store looking at this magical machine and imagining all the beautiful work I could do on this bad boy.

Honestly, what more could a girl ask for?
